The Sklar Brothers!
September 18th & 19th
Ya gotta love this high energy, razor sharp, hysterically funny comedy duo. As stars of ESPN Classic’s “Cheap Seats,” a show that showcased the twin’s wits as they “ripped on” classic sports, their popularity has grown by leaps and bounds. Growing up outside of St. Louis, RANDY & JASON SKLAR had a typical suburban upbringing - playing soccer and baseball after school, hanging out with friends. Then they found comedy. The twins began performing in High School at a local comedy club, and continued through college hosting a monthly, on-campus comedy night at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Upon graduation, the two applied and were accepted to law school, but deferred their enrollment for a year so they could move to New York and pursue comedy. Moving to New York in 1994, the brothers began to develop their unique style of comedy – "a tag team delivery in which one talks over the end of the other's sentence, completing, adding to or reaffirming his comment (much like the raps of The Beastie Boys)," wrote Neil Strauss of the New York Times. “Their comedy accepts the reality of being twins but does not use it as a crutch. Instead," noted Strauss, "they work with their status as imperfect carbon copies of each other."
They quickly attracted the attention of MTV's talent executives looking to develop a different kind of comedy show. What they came up with was "Apartment 2F" – a sitcom format based around Randy and Jason's characters living in New York City. After developing pilots with HBO Independent Productions, WB and NBC, Jason and Randy provided the voices of Biff and Chip Oblong on the critically acclaimed animated show, “The Oblongs.”
Randy and Jason have also guest starred in several TV shows, including an Emmy Award winning episode of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” They starred as conjoined twins in a memorable episode of “Grey's Anatomy” and as warring agents on HBO's “Entourage.” Their acting talents have also been seen on FX’s cult hit “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Providence,” “Becker,” “Law & Order,” and more recently “Children’s Hospital,” “The Legend of Neil,” and in the movies “Wild Hogs,” “The Comebacks,” and “Bubble Boy.” Their half hour “Comedy Central Presents” stand up special is still airs on the network.
Huge sports fans, the brothers combine their knowledge of sports and comedy on shows such as, “Cheap Seats” on ESPN Classic, and on ESPN's “SportsCenter.” They also fill in as guest hosts for Jim Rome on his popular nationally syndicated radio show.
Their hit series "The United Stats of America" was aired on The History Channel and you've also seen them in Adult Swim's "Children's Hospital," as well as their second Comedy Central special "Comedy Central Presents The Sklar Brothers."
Since their last appearance here at the Comedy Showcase they have stayed busy. They are recurring characters on Disney’s “Mighty Med,” are seen on Adult Swim’s “News Readers,” and have been on “Teacher of the Year,” “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and “Partners.”
And guess what? They are going to throw out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers game while they are in town!!
Don’t miss the return of the Sklar Brothers - one of the most unique comedy acts in the world!!
